Awesome discussion of “Old World” vs. ”New World” comuting, i.e. the contrast between the current “do anything, and all at the same time” machines running operating systems like Windows, OS X, Linux et al, and the so-called “closed” devices like the iPad, with their task-centric, file-system-less design.
It’s quite a long post, but an excellent read, and personally, Mr. Frank’s article has given me all sorts of food for thought.
I need to talk to you about computers. I’ve been on a veritable roller-coaster of “how I feel” about the iPad announcement, and trying not to write about it until I had at least an inkling of what was at the root of that.
